SVF has been discovered and developed from 2001 by a scientist who used liposuction and decomposition to separate element with no fat cell called Stromal.

Stem Cells can be transformed to any kind of cell in our body. Among stem cell groups, we found that they play the roles in repairing, enhancing, and healing injured areas, wounds, or inflammation more rapidly.

Why? This is because inflammation process is orderly occurred through stage 1, 2, 3, and 4. Stem cells will reduce those procedures of inflammation therefore the duration of inflammation will be shortened leading to more rapid recovery. There are many people who are confusing between SVF (Stromal Vascular Fraction) and other kinds of treatment, for example, PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma). However, SVF is currently utilized in healing hair loss and thinning hair and it is found to be highly effective.

What are difference between PRP and SVF?

The purposes of use of both SVF and PRP are completely similar. But the important feature required is messenger that will control cell functions we need.

PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) contains a format of messenger with a kind of Growth Factor whereas SVF (Stromal Vascular Fraction) contains another format of messenger obtained from cells that are its elements. We also found that SVF will release a large amount of growth factors with some types of growth factors that may not be found in PRP. Therefore, some scientists found that utilization of SVF to treat hair loss can give better treatment results.

Is there any person using SVF with PRP?

Principally, PRP and SVF have their own strengths but they are still different. When combining them together, it was found that they give better effects. Consequently, some physicians combine SVF and PRP for treating hair loss helping to increase hair density by 20 %.

However, we found a research reporting that correct SVF injection will stimulate the growth of hair root cells by 30% – 90%. However, this effect was found in some patients but it can be a new hope of people with the problems on hair loss and thinning hair.

SVF is complicated than PRP due to SVF separation process requiring liposuction. In the event of hair transplant by FUT, there will be fat under scalp and such fat can be brought out to the filtered process before injection. Is it better? There is no research for comparing traditional technique with this technique. However, liposuction can give larger content of fat leading to larger number of separated cells.

Methods to seperate SVF from Fat:

Use enzymes to digest obtained fat.
Use automatic machine such as body-jet with Q-graft, etc. to suck fat and separate SVF in closed system.

However, it was found that digestion with enzymes will yield larger amount of growth factors or required cells based on each patient. However, the process of digestion with enzymes is more complicated whereas automatic machine may be more expensive but its process is less difficult. However, automatic machine may give smaller amount of cells, stem cells, or growth factors. There is also a problem on U.S. laws or FDA regarding digestion with enzymes, i.e., whenever enzymes are used in cell or stem cell transformation process, it will be deemed as Manipulated Cell.

This technique is not accepted by U.S. laws, but some American physicians also use this technique. The limitation of this technique is the medical enzymes not easy to find. In Thailand, most enzymes used in this technique are laboratory enzymes. Therefore, the most convenient and safe is using a closed system tool through liposuction, SVF separation, and injection. The cost may be higher but it is safe. Although the percentage of obtained SVF may be slightly smaller, but the treatment results will be better after combining with PRP or Sonicated PRP.
